£1.2 Million: Bioscience Business Centre and York Science Park Extension

SCY was the main driver behind a £1.2 million deal for York to develop a new Bioscience Business Centre and help expand facilities at the city’s Science Park, creating vital new space for businesses.

Office at the Bioscience Business Centre

Launched in 2008, the Bioscience Business Centre, based at the University of York, is driving new industrial collaborations and potential start-up activity within the Departments of Biology and Chemistry as well as with other areas of the University.

The Centre provides business development facilities and gives entrepreneurs access to the latest equipment and expertise, helping them to transform pioneering research into commercial ventures.

The Centre also offers hot-desk space for visiting researchers and businesses, additional laboratory space, offices and meeting rooms.

Dr John Pillmoor, director of the University’s Technology Facility says: “This development is greatly assisting our interactions with industry and knowledge transfer activities.

Particularly exciting is the dedicated space within the Centre for external organisations to meet our academics and develop new collaborations.”

£695,000 of the investment secured by SCY supported the development of Park Central, a 3,400 sq ft extension within York Science Park.

Housing a café, exhibition and meeting areas, the new space is designed to encourage informal networking between tenants to help promote sharing of knowledge & ideas and boost opportunities for collaboration.
