The Jerwood Charitable Foundation

The Jerwood Charitable Foundation is dedicated to imaginative and responsible revenue funding of the arts, supporting emerging artists to develop and grow at important stages in their careers. They work with artists across art forms, from dance and theatre to literature and music.

Objectives:

  • to support artists at the early stages of their careers;
  • to support the wider infrastructure of arts organisations;
  • to continue to respond positively to those taking artistic risks;
  • to explore the opportunity of identifying small programme-related investment opportunities.

Large grants
These partnerships tend to be developed proactively and respond to key needs and issues within arts sectors. This fund allows them to develop strategic approaches to supporting artists through nurturing, developmental or commissioning programmes founded and run by established arts organisations. Large grants refer to recurring relationships over a period of years, or to awards of more than £10,000. Whilst the majority of their work in this area is developed proactively with artists and arts organisations, they do accept proposals from individuals or not-for-profit organisations who share their commitment to emerging artists and excellence.

Small grants
A broader number of small grants for one-off projects are available generally under £10,000. This fund allows them to explore new relationships, take risks and support research or development of future ideas. Whilst the majority of the work in this area is developed proactively with artists and arts organisations, they do accept proposals from individuals or not-for-profit organisations who share our commitment to emerging artists and excellence.

How to Apply
Applications can be made and are assessed throughout the year. They are usually assessed initially by the JCF staff, with the help of expert advisers where appropriate. www.jerwoodcharitablefoundation.org
