High quality teaching and an increased investment in the student experience at York St John has seen the University rocket into the top 10 of the Times Higher Education’s annual Student Experience Survey. The results, announced Tuesday 25 April, showed an impressive rise to 9th place for York St John University who were placed 58th in 2012.
A team of undergraduate Biology students at the University of York is developing a bacteria powered electrical battery as part of a global synthetic biology competition.
And to maximise their chances of success in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition, the students are calling on the North Yorkshire business community to offer them support.
SCY interim Chair Professor Brian Cantor has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Bradford. Professor Cantor will take up his new post on 1 October 2013 and will therefore leave his position as Vice Chancellor of the University of York on 30 September 2013.

As you may know, for the past year YABA has been in transition since the cessation of its Yorkshire Forward funding in March 2012. During this time it has successfully adapted its business model from holding bi-monthly investment forums aimed at a large audiences of investors and intermediaries, to holding one Investor Meeting a month specifically aimed at our angel members.

The SCY Innovation Team is currently working to map the innovative organisations working within the Yorkshire area. As part of the ongoing ‘Innovate York’ programme, the team is seeking to capture a picture of current innovation in Yorkshire, along with the region’s ambitions for the future.
SCY has recently completed its highly successful ‘Specialist Business Services’ programme of support, which enabled businesses across Yorkshire and the Humber to access support from specialist business mentors and a series of interactive business workshops.
